This section is intended to answer most of the common questions regarding your experience as a patient. We certainly don't expect to answer everything, and we always welcome an e-mail or a phone call to speak with you personally.
Also, please take a moment to fill out our patient survey — it's completely confidential and the results help us to better serve our community.
Patient Survey
To complete the patient survey, you must have the "U&A" (unique & anonymous) number given to you at the time of transport. This number is located on the back of the privacy practices sheet.

BILLING
Q: Who handles the billing for North Stonington Ambulance?
A: We contract this service to an outside "billing agent", Holdsworth Pelton and Associates. They are based out of East Berlin, CT and handle most billing related issues.
Q: How do I pay my bill?
A: You can pay your ambulance bill in a number of ways:
- Personal check or money order to:
North Stonington Ambulance PO Box 503 East Berlin, CT 06023-0503
- Visa, Mastercard or Debit
Online: www.ambulancebill.com
Phone: 800.258.3902
Q: How can I get a copy of my bill?
A: You may request a copy of your bill by calling our billing office at 800.258.3902.
Q: I am a North Stonington resident, why am I receiving a bill? I pay taxes!
A: This question has two answers. First, Connecticut law does not allow an ambulance service to "selectively" bill patients - we must either bill everyone or no one. Second, the money we receive from patient billing offsets the amount of tax money we require in order to operate. If you didn't receive a bill, your taxes would be higher to compensate for this lost revenue.
Q: Why is this bill so high? This is outrageous!
A: The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health sets the rates for ambulance transport charges. We follow this rate schedule and have never requested an increase.
Q: Why didn't my insurance company pay for this?
A: Our billing agent may not have your latest insurance information on file. Please call our billing office at 800.258.3902 or go to www.ambulancebill.com to update this information. Note: Not all transports are approved by insurance companies, contact our billing office for details.
Q: I was injured at work, isn't my employer responsible for this bill?
A: Probably. Our billing office (800.258.3902) will work with you and your employer to determine the appropriate course of action.
Q: I cannot afford this bill. What can I do?
A: We understand that budgeting for an emergency ambulance ride is not possible. We also want to assure you that regardless of ability to pay, we stand committed to providing you the same level of professional care you have come to expect. Our billing office will work with you to arrange payment plans, postponements, etc. Please contact them as soon as possible at 800.258.3902.
